Ernie
Ernie,
is a real star on Sesame Street from the beginning of the show in 1969. He is
the best friend of Bert and his roommate at 123 Sesame Street. Ernie is acting
the trouble-maker and Bert the serious one. He tried always to save Ernie from
troubles. If we say that Ernie is one of the most popular characters of Sesame
Street, we will not be exaggerated.
Ernie loves to take
bubble baths with Rubber Duckie, he tries to learn saxophone, he keeps Bert
awake at night for different reasons. For example he desides to play the drums,
to count something or anything else middle in the night. He always wants to
play with Bert but as Bert joins the game, he wants to play something else. As
they are eating a food together, Ernie wants always the exptra piece. Although
they are so different personalities from each other, it is surprising that they
are best friends.
Altho Bert make his
appearances always with Ernie, Ernis has also some appearances without him. We
can see him with Cookie Monster, Sherlock Hemlock, Lefty the Salesman e.t.c. He
was in a daily segment with Big Bird “Journey to Ernie.” This segment was from
33 til 36 seasons. From 39 season Erni and Bert are appeared in special
segments “Bert and Ernie’s Great Adventures”
He hosted Play with Me Sesame and Ernie Says.
Together with Bert they hosted The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.
Ernie and Bert have also appeared in Sesame
Street movies. Ernie was also at the movies "The Muppet Movie" and "The Muppets
Take Manhattan"
Specials
In very special Christmas Eve on Sesame Street
segment he wants to give Bert a cigar box as a Christmas present, but he has no
money. He traded then his Rubber Duckie for his best friend. Bur at the and Mr.
Hooper gave it back as present. He gaves also the paper clips from Bert back.
He traded them to buy Ernie a soap dish.
Ernie, Bert and Kermit the Frog were the only
Sesame Street characters that have interacted with Doc.
Performing Ernie Puppet
Ernie is a hand puppet but not a hand rod
puppet as Bert, he is a live hand puppet. The performer can use his both hands
to perform Ernie. A second puppeteer provides the right arm. Cookie Monster,
Fozzie Bear, Beaker and Bunsen Honeydew are puppets like Ernie. It is not easy
to handle these puppets, even though the difficulty is not noticeable while
watching them on the screen.
