In this episode, Chris welcomes the viewer when he's caught off guard by an unpleasant noise and smell coming from Oscar's laptop, which is opened to Scramazon.com. Oscar wants to purchase the special Grouch instrument, the P.U.-gelhorn, for him and Fluffy to play a duet. The item costs 8 bags of trash, but Oscar has only 3. Chris gives him 2 more and suggests that by saving his trash, he'll be able to buy it soon.

Suddenly, Mucklemore and his Grouch posse arrive, musically promoting the "Grouch Thrift Shop." Mucklemore invites Oscar to join them in finding some cheap trash at the thrift shop, but Chris convinces him to control himself and save his trash. Oscar ends up buying Mucklemore's fish-hat for all his trash bags.

Maria and Gina stop by to provide Oscar with more trash, but he's not sure how to stop himself from spending it on something else. Gooze Orman, one of the wealthiest Grouches in the world, appears and offers to help Oscar the Gooze Orman way: "Pretend Your Way to Trash!" She tells him to imagine other products as nice and cute things he would never want to buy. A Scramazon alert advertises the new Sty-Phone 6, which Oscar wants. Following Gooze's advice, Oscar imagines the phone as a cute bunny, which disgusts him from the site. Fluffy counts their trash bags, and they finally have enough for the P.U.-gelhorn.

A Scramazon delivery Grouch immediately arrives with the P.U.-gelhorn but leaves without a tip (he was early, and the product wasn't broken). Oscar drives everyone away as he plays his new P.U.-gelhorn.

To help demonstrate the word of the day, "awful," Murray presents Adam Scott with some terrible gifts. The scene is both funny and informative, as it teaches the meaning of the word "awful."

In the "Murray Has a Little Lamb" segment, Murray finishes his jug of milk and is about to throw it away when he remembers to recycle it instead. He wonders what happens to recycled things, and Ovejita leads him to the New York City Recycling Plant. There, one of the staff members explains the recycling process to Murray.

The "Super Grover 2.0" segment features a cactus trying to play with his new ball when something starts happening to it. Super Grover 2.0 arrives and uses his powers of observation to deduce the problem. Grover eventually finds the perfect ball for the cactus to play with, which is made of foil wrapping.

In the "Elmo and the gang" segment, Elmo and his friends introduce the letter of the day, "S," with a song and dance. This is followed by two short animations: one from Bubba's Word Emporium, announcing his sale of S words, and another where Cookie Monster sings about the S sound in the word "sandwich."

Back at the Recycling Center, Murray, Ovejita, and the kids simulate the sorting procedures done by the center's technology.

In the "Abby's Flying Fairy School" segment, Mrs. Sparklenose helps Abby, Blogg, and Gonnigan recycle bottles they brought from home. One of Abby's bottles is dusty, so she rubs it, and out comes Gene the Genie. The bottle starts hopping around, looking for someone to suck inside. The friends have to come up with a plan to help Gene and Mrs. Sparklenose.

The "Recyclables" song is a catchy tune that teaches about recycling.

In another segment, Count von Count and his friends sing and stomp to find the number of the day - 8. This is followed by two short films: one where eight people break it down in a park, and another where a girl's family of 8 assembles for a family photo.

Finally, in the "Elmo the Musical" segment, Elmo imagines himself as Prince Elmo, who must save the citizens of Tottentot from a menacing dragon. Prince Elmo and his two royal mice guards have to overcome several obstacles to reach the town and ultimately defeat the dragon with a clever tactic.
