The popular red character of Sesame Street, Elmo, was created by Caroly Wilcox. Caroly Wilcox calls it "short red" in her manuscript notes.
So Elmo was originally conceived as a short muppet. Elmo is three and a half years old. A normal three-and-a-half-year-old boy is about 39 inches, 100 centimeters tall. So how tall is Elmo?
New Orleans soccer team player Drew Brees helped us find the answer to this question. Drew was the guest of the Celebrity segment in Sesame Street episode 4274. Drew and Elmo introduced the word "measure" in this episode.
Drew measured how tall Elmo was. By this measurement, Elmo was 24 inches tall. 24 inches is equal to 60.96 centimeters.
