Sesame Street Best of Friends is a special that was released in 2012. Special is a compilation of popular videos of famous Sesame Street characters. It is possible to see almost every character in the 2-hour video.

Elmo, Abby Cadabby, Cookie Monster, Telly Monster, Zoe, Count von Count, Ernie and Bert, Oscar the Grouch, Rosita, Big Bird, Snuffy, Grover are Sesame Street characters who have their own segments in the "Sesame Street Best of Friends" video.

One of the reasons that makes "Best of Friends" special is that the videos that will be included in the DVD were selected by voting by Sesame Street fans.

In the section reserved to Elmo:

Elmo's Song” is a song first sung by Elmo in Sesame Street Episode 2710. Mr. Snuffleupagus and Big Bird listen to Elmo while Elmo sings. And they want to have their own songs just like Elmo. "Elmo's Ducks" is a popular song sung by Elmo playing the guitar and first aired on Sesame Street Episode 4180. Elmo's Ducks has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award. The song is also featured in the videos for "The Best of Elmo 2", "Best of Friends", "Love to Learn 2" and "50 Years and Counting".

Celebrity Lullabies is the song first sung by Ricky Gervais in Sesame Street Episode 4201. Ricky Gervais tries to put Elmo to sleep with a lullaby. The song Celebrity Lullabies is also featured in the videos "Singing with the Stars", "Best of Friends", "Alphabet Songs", "Awesome Alphabet Collection", "50 Years and Counting".

"A Monster Went and Ate My Red Two" is a song first sung by Elvis Costello and Elmo in Episode 4267. The song, with lyrics by Joey Mazzarino, is also featured in the videos "The Best of Elmo 3", "Cool Counting Collection", "Sesame Street Best of Friends".

39 Stairs is a video from the Monsterpiece Theater series. In the video, Cookie Monster appears as Alistair Cookie. Grover climbs 39 steps and doesn't find what he hoped for above. It was first aired on Episode 2342.

In another "The Count" sketch, The Count directs a movie featuring Liam Neeson in Best of Friends.
The Count and Julianne Moore are featured in a sketch where the number 7 is the main theme.

The Sesame Street Best of Friends video features 2 songs sung by Bert and Ernie: "La, La, La" and "Imagination".

There are also 2 sketches with Ernie and Bert in the special. In one of them, Ernie and Bert are watching a movie in the movie theater and the woman sitting in front of them is wearing a huge hat.

In the other sketch, Bert tells Ernie not to eat cookies in bed, and Ernie decides to eat them in Bert's bed.
