What’s the Word on the Street? : Journal.
SCENES: While playing tag, Elmo, Telly, and Rosita knock over some papers from Gordon’s science class and get inspired to be scientists. They sing a science song and Gordon tells them the steps to be a scientist: First, they need to make a question that they want an answer to. They look around the street and see Leela giving Barkley a bath. They wonder if everyone on Sesame Street takes a bath and Elmo and Rosita form a Hypothesis, that everyone does, but Telly thinks everyone doesn’t. They go off with a journal to take notes and find some data.
Chris sits in his bathtub and sings a happy song when suddenly the scientists appear in it. They note on their journey that he’s taking a bath and sing a song, before leaving him.
They find a cat licking itself and much to Telly’s surprise, that’s how cats take a bath. They again note that in their journal and leave again.
In a garden, they watch a sparrow rolling in the dust and Telly is sure that the sparrow isn’t taking a bath, but he does. A dust bath. Then they see an owl, which Telly believes also doesn’t take a bath, but it does. Actually, it’s taking a sunbath to get rid of the germs in her feathers. Telly knows someone who would never take a bath.
Telly bangs on Oscar’s trash can, and is
sure that he won’t be taking a bath. But he is taking a mud bath. Telly gets
angry but Gordon tells him that it’s ok to be wrong in science: the important
thing is the data they found. They sing their song once more.
