Sesame Street Episode 4133 National Try a New Food Day

Sesame Street Episode 4133
National Try a New Food Day
Season 37 (2006)

In Episode 4133 of Sesame Street, Alan welcomes viewers as Baby Bear sits at the counter of Hooper's Store. Baby Bear orders his usual dish of porridge with brown sugar and honey. Just then, Telly, the "Monster on the Spot" reporter, enters and announces that it's National Try a New Food Day on Sesame Street.

Telly asks Baby Bear what new food he plans to try. Though hesitant at first, Baby Bear agrees to Alan's suggestion of adding strawberries to his porridge. To his surprise, he finds it delicious. Telly then interviews Oscar the Grouch, who doesn't care about the event but admits he's never had a cherry on top of his chocolate ice cream with fish, sauerkraut, and marshmallows. Oscar prepares this unusual treat and enjoys its terrible taste.

Back at Hooper's Store, Baby Bear has tried various fruits as toppings for his porridge and found them all delightful. He shares this news with Telly, who then takes a break and orders his usual lunch: a grilled cheese sandwich cut into triangles. Baby Bear asks Telly what new food he plans to try and suggests a sandwich cut into squares instead. Caught off guard, Telly hesitates but eventually tries the square-cut sandwich, finding it just as tasty as his usual meal.

Throughout the street scenes, characters are encouraged to try new foods in celebration of National Try a New Food Day. The episode focuses on Baby Bear's and Telly's experiences with trying new foods and the excitement they share as they discover new flavors and tastes.

In a stop-motion animation, sandwich ingredients square-dance in a ring and arrange themselves into a sandwich, which gets a bite taken out of it in a refrigerator.

The episode also features Jasper and Julius in an animated segment about apples. In another film segment, Wanda the Word Fairy drives to a market to demonstrate the words of foods, attracting the suspicious gaze of the grocer in the process.

In a Muppets segment, Cookie Monster participates in The Letter of the Day Games, where he finds three things beginning with the letter V in one minute, much to the unfortunate consequence of Prairie Dawn's violin. Another animation segment showcases kids passing the letter "V" to each other, naming words that begin with the letter.

Telly and Rosita have a bilingual interaction, where Telly says "Let's Eat!" and Rosita says "¡Vamos a comer!" In a cartoon segment, "You Don't Have to Be a Grizzly" explains that kids and animals can like the same foods. Broccoli interviews Comoria about her favorite healthy food and is flattered by her answer.

In a film segment, Jerry Nelson, Roscoe Orman, and Fran Brill narrate "Great Moments at the Sink," in which mud-pie champion Sasha Smith washes her hands. In a Muppets segment, Ernie sings "Breakfast is the Best Meal of the Day" with a singing banana, toast with eggs, and a bowl of oatmeal about how good breakfast can be.

In an animation segment, a pattern of yellow and red birds is shown. Global Grover returns from Egypt with his camel Sidney and presents a film where Achmed visits his cousins and works on a farm. The Number of the Day segment features The Count counting and singing up to 16, accompanied by the Countess and their band of musicians.
