The story begins with Cookie Monster encountering Elmo and Abby, who are about to demonstrate the number of the day - 6. Cookie Monster is amazed by Abby's ability to conjure the number and 6 ping pong balls out of thin air. He becomes captivated by the idea of possessing a magic wand that could create any number of cookies he desires.
Cookie Monster then comes up with a plan to acquire Abby's wand. He pretends to be a wand repairman and tries to take Abby's wand for "fixing." However, Abby believes her wand works perfectly fine and demonstrates its magic by changing the colors of the ping pong balls. Cookie Monster leaves, but not before imagining the possibilities of having a magic wand that could create cookies of any flavor.
Returning as a wand salesman, Cookie Monster tries to persuade Abby to trade her old wand for a makeshift one. Abby and Elmo still believe her wand is in good condition, and they use it to demonstrate the concepts of big and small by enlarging the ping pong balls. Cookie Monster leaves once more, now dreaming of creating the biggest cookie ever with the magic wand.
When Abby and Elmo go off to play Hide and Seek, Abby leaves her wand behind. Cookie Monster, disguised again, spots the wand and is about to take it when Alan intervenes. Alan helps Cookie Monster realize the consequences of taking the wand, including the potential loss of Abby's friendship. Cookie Monster decides that Abby's friendship is more important than any number of cookies and leaves the wand untouched.
