Why Does Children Love Sesame Street?

Ernie Wise is an ever-popular orange furry Muppet character on the series long-running PBS and HBO television show Sesame Street. He and his roommate Bert are the main characters in the series, with Ernie playing the naive troublemaker, Bert the ever-vigilant foil, and both of them acting out their famous roles. Bill Plympton and John Simon created the show.

Ernie and Bert are inseparable. Their relationship started when they were still little boys, where they tried to hand-cast dollar bills to each other. When they grew older, they formed their first troupe and became known for performing acts such as filling in for Muppets during the musical numbers. Today, they have considered some of the best-known street kids around. From being onscreen to being real people with real lives, they have become a beloved part of our culture.

In this version of the world, Ernie and Bert are street kids who go to a very ordinary, and often bizarre, a place called the City Hall. They are commonly known as "The Three Goons." The set up is comical, but the characters are not. They are just regular kids going about their business.

Ernie is pleased when he goes with Bert and earns him the trust of Street's citizens. However, when he is the bad guy because of his jealousy over Bert's love interest, Big Bird. During these times, Ernie acts like a jerk.

In this latest version of the characters, Ernie and Bert are twin babies. They are run by the Cookie Monster, who lives at Street. Many other odd characters live on Street, including Doodles, Mr. Spell, Mr. Squigles, Pipsqueak, and many more.
