The Herring Staff is a Pre-Hardmode summoning
weapon found in Shadow Chests in Hell. Summons an attacking Herring to attack
enemies. Unlike most minions, Herring only takes up half a minion slot,
allowing the player to collect twice as many Herrings as single-slot minions.
Its best modifier is Ruthless. The Legendary
modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect
the first summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot
deal with critical hits. The only permanent advantage of the Legendary Herring
Wand over the Brutal one is recoil.
NOTES:
Herring minions will not target any off-screen
enemies.
This weapon can also be obtained from Abyssal
Crate after defeating Slime God or Wall of Flesh.
Other Informations:
Despite being called a "Herring
Staff", the herring has a distinctive silver-like reflective color, while
the petite is dark blue in color, so it doesn't look like a real petite herring
created by the wand.
About Deepsea Staff, Herring Staff's Most
Important Competitor
The Deepsea Staff is a Hard Mode summon weapon
dropped by the Aquatic Scourge; This is an indirect upgrade to Seafaring
Personnel. Summons an aquatic starfish that protects the player by throwing it
at enemies and deals damage on contact.
Its best modifier is Ruthless. The Legendary
modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect
the first summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot
deal with critical hits. The Legendary Deep Sea Staff's only permanent
advantage over the Brutal one is its recoil.
Another Important Weapon is the Shellfish
Staff
The Shellfish Staff is a Hard mode summoning weapon dropped from a Giant Clam mini-boss. Summons a Shellfish that follows the player and attacks nearby enemies by attaching itself to them.
Each Shellfish occupies 2 minion slots. Shellfish deal direct damage only when initially locked onto an enemy. From there, it applies the Shellfish Clap debuff as long as it remains attached to the enemy.
The damage of this debuff
is affected by minion damage bonuses and has a base damage of 75 per second
attached to an enemy shellfish. Up to 5 shellfish can cling to an enemy.
Its best modifier is Ruthless. The Legendary modifier provides the widest array of stat bonuses, but these primarily affect the first summon rather than the resulting minion. Additionally, minions cannot deal with critical hits. The Legendary Conch Staff's only permanent advantage over the Brutal one is recoil.
