You can find many articles on the Internet describing the health benefits of pomegranate for humans, but dogs and humans are different creatures. Nutrients are not broken down in the same way in these two creatures, so what is beneficial to one need not be beneficial to the other. For example, will you die if you eat your dog's food? Probably not. do you feel nauseous? Probably yes. So can dogs eat pomegranates? Our answer: Avoid feeding pomegranates to your dog.
Not Deadly For Dogs
Technically, pomegranate seeds are not toxic to dogs like other foods. It is highly unlikely that your dog will experience organ failure or death after eating this fruit. Unlike raisins or grapes, which can cause kidney failure if eaten in excess, pomegranates usually only cause digestive issues. Chances are your dog will vomit pomegranate on his own.
Like acorns, pomegranate seeds contain tannins. Tannins can cause stomach problems in dogs causing vomiting and diarrhea. Pomegranate peel can cause choking.
Signs Your Dog May Have Eaten Pomegranates
If you think your dog has stolen some pomegranate from the counter, watch him closely for a few hours. Make sure or encourage him to drink plenty of water. There is a possibility that this fruit will vomit on its own, but remember, every dog is different. Some dogs may feel nauseous after eating pomegranates, but others do not.
